In-situ Flood Barrier

Speedy Beaver is an in-situ dam that aims to address the issues caused by trying to get some temporary and demountable barriers to site in an emergency whilst also addressing the manpower requirments of such systems.
Speedy Beaver is installed by professional engineers into a low level channel that houses the hydraulic pipes and piston legs.

The surface of the barrier is dressed to match the exisiting surroundings and can comprise paving slabs, block paviers and even cobbles or crazy paving!

Small sections can be manually lifted as shown in photograph 4 on the right or for larger installations the hydaulic pump will raise each section individually.
The manual lift is also avaialble as a fail safe option.

Sections are joined using the yellow connecting bar as shown.

The barrier can be as high as 2.2m and will withstand wave action so is very suitable as a sea wall or to cover access points in existing sea or river walls.

This solution is ideal where high permanent sea and river walls in towns and villages would spoil an otherwise scenic view and prove very unpopular with the residents.

Future developments are likely to include telemetary controls to enable remote activation further reducing the need for personnel and ensuring the dam is always in place quickly to respond to any flood incident
