In-situ barriers can be fabricated as high as 2.2m and to withstand wave action so they make ideal sea walls where height restrictions on permanent solutions might raise planning issues and objections. The dam is installed into a shallow trough well above any services and the top can be dressed to match any hard surfacing already in place such as paving slabs, block paviers, cobbles, etc.

Rivers containing mussel beds might be detrimentally effected by the creation of a permanent flood barrier that could cause scour in different places or alter the flow of the river permanently. A temporary Rapidam flood barrier has the benefits of providing flood protection when it is required whilst preserving the natural habitat of wildlife and preserving natural river flows.
